~ TURKEY TAILS ~

Jim Spears is master of the Turkey Tails!
All Turkey Tails are thin and many are quite wide also. The ancients may
have used these awesome blades to show off their flintknapping skill because
they are often made from nodular stone (hornstone) with the tip(s) still in the
cortex. This would show how good the knapper was at reducing a round
nodule into a thin blade without losing any length across the nodule!
If any of you have ever tried to make a blade from a nodule, you will understand
the difficulty of simply getting INTO the thing, much less doing it without
waste and creating a beautiful blade.
All of this makes true flintknapping (authentic replication) of the Turkey Tail
one of the
more challenging pieces you can make. Please enjoy these lovely blades by
Jim Spears.
If you want to try making one and need a little help, order Jim's DVD, Making
the Turkey Tail.
